Can you recommend a good place to eat? I certainly can! Being in Bavaria, you’re likely interested in trying the local cuisine. The Ratskeller offers superbly prepared traditional Bavarian dishes in an elegant yet very relaxed atmosphere with live music every evening. It is located under the New Town Hall (neues Rathaus) at Marienplatz, which is where its name comes from. The famous and very traditional Weißes Bräuhaus is another local favorite. It is located directly across the street from McDonald’s only 100 meters up the street from Marienplatz. Both of these excellent restaurants are extremely easy to find.

For the best American Food in Munich, nothing compares to the Hard Rock Café, which has an excellent atmosphere and the friendliest staff I have ever encountered in 10 years of living in Munich. Their food is excellent, especially their burgers and nachos. I highly recommend their Happy Hour as well. Take a look at their ad and don’t forget to flash our pamphlet when you ’re there for a free drink. They are located directly across from the main entrance to the the Hofbräuhaus.

Our neighbor The Kartoffel Haus specializes in potatos but also offers many other outstanding dishes. My personal favorite is the baked potato filled with delicious creamed spinach and topped with melted cheese. Ummm! The Indian Potato under International on their menu is also fantastic, which is a turkey curry (with some veggies) in a baked potato. Their Wiener Schitzel literally melts in your mouth, which is the true test of quality with that dish. They also have an excellent Sausage Sampler especially for visitors to Munich interested in trying all the types of sausage typical for Bavaria, which of course, is also served in a potato. Take a look at their ad and their location just up the street from our shop, Discover Bavaria.

If you are interested in some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had in Germany, Sausalitos is the place to go. They have an incredible deal on an all-you-can-eat-buffet for lunch every day (except Sun.) from 11 to 3:00 pm for just d 8.50, including free soft drinks! They also offer a Happy Hour with half-priced cocktails and excellent Margaritas. Take a look at their ad for the Happy Hour times.

For the best and freshest sandwiches in town go to Subway, located just 100 meters from Marienplatz. From Marienplatz, go up the Rindermarkt street past the St. Peter’s Church (Old Peter). Take a look at their ad on.

Kilian’s Irish Pub also offers excellent food ranging from giant burgers and seafood lasagne to quality steaks and nachos, with Guiness to boot. Bring a big appetite, their portions are very generous. Right next door to Killians is Ned Kelly’s, which specializes in Australian cuisine, such as ostrich, crocodile, Koala bears and the like. Just kidding about the Koala bears, but they do have croc once in a while. Both of these bars have live sports on a large screen and are located just behind the Frauenkirche (twin towered church) in the pedestrian area.

For the best coffee, cookies and muffins that I know of in Munich, go to the San Francisco Coffee Company. Take a look at their ad. Their most central location is im Tal.

Beer gardens
When it comes to beer gardens we recommend the Chinese Tower in the middle of the English Garden, which is where Mike’s Bike Tours stops for about an hour in the middle of the tour, the Augustinerkeller, the oldest and most traditional beergarden in Munich, and the Hofbräukeller (different from the Hofbräuhaus!).
